Quality Driven Source Selection Using Data Envelope Analysis

چکیده
Due to the development of the Internet there is an increasing number of information sources available to users. This makes it necessary to query only the most appropriate sources. The information quality ooered by these sources can and must be a criterion for source selection. However, information quality has many dimensions, both subjective and objective, and it is thus diicult to directly compare sources with one another or give a ranking of sources. We propose to use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to solve these shortcomings. This method does not directly compare sources, but focuses on individual sources, determining their eeciency in terms of information quality and cost. We adapt DEA to the task of source selection and discuss its advantages over other methods. Furthermore , we expand the model to include cost criteria and suggest a solution to additionally select sources in a query-dependent way. 1 Motivation The Situation The development of the Internet and the World Wide Web during recent years has made it possible and useful to access many diierent information systems anywhere in the world to obtain information. For a certain piece of information a user can typically choose from many similar information sources. Due to time and cost considerations it must be decided which ones to query, either by the user or by an automated process.

Selection of Significant Input Parameters for Water Quality Prediction- A Comparative Approach
Water quality analysis involves analysis of physio-chemical, biological and microbiological parameters and reflects abiotic and biotic status of ecosystem. This assessment helps in planning the utilization, antipollution and conservation strategies for sustainable use of aquatic ecosystem. Many mathematical models are available for prediction of water quality. These models are complex in struct...
متن کاملInvestigation of Requirements Selection Quality in Market-Driven Software Processes using an Open Source Discrete Event Simulation Framework
When developing commercial software products it is crucial to select the right requirements for the right release and to have a short Mean-Time-To-Market (MTTM) in order to be competitive. This paper reports on a simulation of a model of market-driven requirements engineering processes with requirements selection quality as a key aspect. The simulator is built using an open source simulation fr...
متن کاملGlottal Source Model Selection for Stationary Singing-Voice by Low-Band Envelope Matching
In this paper a preliminary study on voice excitation modeling by single glottal shape parameter selection is presented. A strategy for direct model selection by matching derivative glottal source estimates with LF-based candidates driven by the Rd parameter is explored by means of two state-of-the-art similarity measures and a novel one considering spectral envelope information. An experimenta...
متن کاملA PCA/ICA based Fetal ECG Extraction from Mother Abdominal Recordings by Means of a Novel Data-driven Approach to Fetal ECG Quality Assessment
Background: Fetal electrocardiography is a developing field that provides valuable information on the fetal health during pregnancy. By early diagnosis and treatment of fetal heart problems, more survival chance is given to the infant. Objective: Here, we extract fetal ECG from maternal abdominal recordings and detect R-peaks in order to recognize fetal heart rate. On the next step, we find a be...
متن کاملA Quality-based Active Sample Selection Strategy for Statistical Machine Translation
This paper presents a new active learning technique for machine translation based on quality estimation of automatically translated sentences. It uses an error-driven strategy, i.e., it assumes that the more errors an automatically translated sentence contains, the more informative it is for the translation system. Our approach is based on a quality estimation technique which involves a wider r...
